When we are not eating frozen yogurt, our family loves to explore all of the great activities, history, nature, and entertainment Richland County, Ashland County, and the surrounding areas have to offer. Below is a list of some of the things our family loves to do. If you would like us to add something, please send us a message.
Visit the Richland Carrousel Park to ride the only carrousel with hand-carved horses in the area. The carrousel is indoor, so it is a great destination regardless of the weather. While you are there you can grab some popcorn, chips, candy, and slushies. The Carrousel is located in the Carrousel district downtown and is within walking distance of the Little Buckeye Children's Museum, public parking, and tons of cool and unique local restaurants. https://richlandcarrousel.com/
In beautiful Ashland County, just outside of Loudonville, you will find the largest outdoor recreation area in all of Ohio. Many canoe liveries, campgrounds, miniature golf, adventure courses, ziplining, and other activities can be found on State Route 3 and Wally Road. One of our favorites is Mohican Adventures. https://www.mohicanadventures.com/
With its first performance opening in 1928, the Renaissance Theater is one of the oldest theaters still operating in North Central Ohio. It has a long history filled with Vaudeville acts, organ music, famous performers, famous guests, robberies, deterioration and renovation, and a National Historic Registration. Today this regional theater offers both youth and Broadway Series Theater. With show casts mostly featuring talent from the Northern and Central Ohio areas, the Renaissance Theater is a true gem for seeing the talents of our community. You can also catch comedians, concerts, the Mansfield Symphony, and even animal shows at The Ren. https://rentickets.org/
Visit the vast home and estate of renowned Pulitzer Prize winning, twentieth century author, Louis Bromfield. Bromfield was born in Mansfield and attended Mansfield Senior High. His beautiful and interesting home is maintained today by the Malabar Farm Foundation, and the donated estate, trails, and surrounding land are maintained by Ohio Department of Natural Resources. This property was used quite a bit in The Shawshank Redemption movie. Bromfield was friends with many famous authors, movie stars, and eccentrics of his time, many of whom visited his farm. Visit the Malabar Farm Foundation and ODNR websites to learn more about the great opportunities that await you at Malabar Farm.
